What’s in it?
To accomplish maximum comfort at minimum running costs, our system directly addresses three of five critical factors:
- Structure
- Air tightness
- Insulation
- Ventilation / Heat Recovery
- Renewables
1. Structure
We recognise there are a number of types of core structure in addition to timber frame – brick, block, SIP’s, polystyrene filled concrete…to name but a few. However a timber frame structure is by far the most successful in attaining the highest standard of air tightness and insulation, and indeed ventilation & heat recovery. During the manufacture and erection stages, ATC incorporate robust details, to ‘build in’ the vital elements of air tightness (often omitted by other companies) which cannot be added retrospectively – therefore giving a solid core that leads to a home with an exceptionally high comfort level and with a view to controlling long term running costs.
2. Air Tightness
The accurate installation of air tightness in conjunction with insulation has been proven to reduce energy costs by up to 80% by preventing heat loss through the fabric of the building. To achieve air tightness we use the ‘Proclima’ Air tight system – Intello Plus. (Full details and specifications are available online at www.proclima.com). However, lack of attention to detail during design, manufacture or erection can lead to air leaks which have serious consequences in inhibiting a structure from performing to the expected levels. To prevent this, ATC has researched the potential problem ‘hot spots’ and trained all involved to ensure particular attention is employed to key areas such as sealing floor to external wall junctions, sealing service penetration points, and around windows and doors.
3. Insulation
Timber frame technology works well with traditional insulation materials such as Fibre glass wool and Rockwool, but truly excels with innovative organic alternatives, such as Hemp or Sheepswool. ATC have their own German trained team to install organic Cellulose insulation (recycled paper) which is pumped into the walls and roofs under pressure. This, in conjunction with our ‘Warmframe’ and Warm roof options (which deal with cold bridging issues) ensure exceptional performance. The best solution for your home will be part of our discussions on your visit to our offices.
4 & 5 Ventilation/Heat Recovery & Renewables
Regarding Ventilation & Heat Recovery – The necessity to commission an independent consultant is imperative due to the excess of information in the present market, much of it inaccurate. ATC work closely with one consultant and will happily provide details. Many of our clients have testified to the fact that this consultation has been invaluable in navigating this potential mine field.
